Building History: The Curry Brand "Feel Good Flow" Court
How we helped Stephen Curry and Under Armour revitalize Oakland’s Manzanita Recreation Center.
TL;DR: The Curry Brand "Feel Good Flow" Launch
Court Builders Northern California was selected by Stephen Curry and Under Armour to execute the historic launch of the Curry Brand at Oakland’s Manzanita Recreation Center. We completely refurbished the aging basketball court, installing a high-performance surface featuring the vibrant "Feel Good Flow" colorway. The project showcases our ability to merge elite athletic construction with community art, featuring custom backboards by artist Allison "Hueman" Torneros to inspire the next generation of Oakland youth.
Creating Spaces That Inspire the Next Generation
When Stephen Curry prepared to launch his standalone Curry Brand, he didn't just want to release a shoe; he wanted to plant a flag in the community. To make that happen, his team needed a construction partner who could deliver a championship-level surface in his own backyard of Oakland.
Court Builders Northern California was honored to be selected as the official court builder for this historic project. Working alongside the Eat.Learn.Play. Foundation and Under Armour, we transformed the weathering asphalt at the Manzanita Recreation Center into a vibrant, high-performance sanctuary for Oakland’s youth.
Project "001": Manzanita Recreation Center
The Construction Challenge
The existing facility was aging and in need of a safety overhaul. Our team managed the complete renovation, which included:
-
- Surface Rehabilitation: We installed a premium modular sport surface designed to provide professional-grade traction and shock absorption, mimicking the "flow" technology in Curry's signature footwear.
- Safety Upgrades: The new surface significantly reduces impact on joints, allowing kids to play longer and harder with reduced injury risk.
- Custom Art Integration: We worked with the design team to ensure the court wasn't just a floor, but a canvas that could host the complex, colorful designs of local artists.
"From day 1 their commitment to the kids has been evident - from Bushrod, to Concordia, to Manzanita – these investments represent so much hope for the Oakland community."
— J. Nicholas Williams, Director of Oakland Parks, Recreation & Youth Development

Where Art Meets Performance
This project was a unique collaboration between sport and street art. We installed custom backboards featuring work by Allison “Hueman” Torneros, a local Oakland artist personally selected by Steph Curry.
Her "Feel Good Flow" design—which also appears on the Curry Flow 8 signature shoe—reflects the diversity and creative energy of Oakland.
-
- The Inspiration: "The Town. Diverse. Progressive. Compassionate. Land of the underdogs."
- The Execution: Our team ensured that the installation of these custom components was seamless, creating a functional art installation that can withstand the rigors of daily public play.
Performance Powering Purpose
This court is more than a place to shoot hoops; it is a safe haven. It serves as a central hub for the Oakland Parks, Recreation & Youth Development Town Camps, providing mentorship and physical activity for children in the surrounding neighborhoods.
By replacing cracked concrete with a professional-grade modular surface, Court Builders Northern California helped ensure that the kids of Oakland have the same quality of play as the pros they look up to.
"This is special to be here in Oakland and to have the first Curry Brand court here that will hopefully give kids a safe place to play and to dream big. We want to be their support every step of the way."
— Stephen Curry
